Choosing a tracker
Which reading tracker app should I use?
The one whose facts match how you read. Print readers, audiobook listeners, club readers and goal setters need different things, so this site does not rank the apps. The tracker finder lists the apps that match your answers. More: Tracker finder
What is the difference between a reading tracker and a reading app?
A tracker keeps a log of what you read, with shelves, goals or stats. Some reading apps do other jobs: Magic Bookmark, for example, finds your place in a book and does not keep a log. More: Tracker terms
Do I need a reading tracker at all?
No. A notebook works. A tracker helps if you like seeing progress, want reminders, or read with friends who use one. More: Lesson 1
Can I use two reading apps at once?
Yes, if they do different jobs. Most readers keep one log; pairing it with a different kind of app, such as a session timer or a place-finding app, is common. More: Head-to-heads
Which apps are best for club readers?
Goodreads, Fable, Literal and The StoryGraph describe clubs or buddy reads. Literal said in May 2026 that it is sunsetting the current version of Clubs. More: Best for club readers
Which apps have goals and reading stats?
Every app we profile except Magic Bookmark describes goals, streaks or reading stats. The StoryGraph is the most chart-heavy; Bookly works out reading speed from its timer. More: Best for goal setters
Print, ebooks and audiobooks
Which reading trackers work with audiobooks?
On the pages we read, Basmo, Bookly, Fable, Goodreads, Literal, Magic Bookmark and The StoryGraph describe audiobook features in different ways: Bookly and Basmo track audiobooks as a format, Goodreads lets you shelve audiobook editions, The StoryGraph has listening goals, Fable takes listening activity from a linked Everand account, Literal offers public-domain audiobooks, and Magic Bookmark finds your place from the last phrase you heard. More: Best for audiobook listeners
Which apps can scan a print book?
The StoryGraph, Goodreads and Literal describe barcode scanning, BookBuddy scans with the camera or a Bluetooth scanner, Bookly scans ISBN barcodes, Basmo scans pages for highlights, and Magic Bookmark reads a photo of your page to find your place. More: Best for print readers
Does any tracker sync with an e-reader?
Rakuten Kobo said on June 29, 2026 that progress and finished books from Kobo e-readers and apps now flow into a linked StoryGraph account. Basmo describes Kindle import and sync, and Fable lists Kindle import on Google Play. More: Best for ebook readers
How do I keep my place when switching between print and audio?
Note the page and the first words of the next sentence when you stop reading, and the last phrase you heard when you stop listening. Magic Bookmark does this for supported titles. More: Lesson 3
Which app helps me get back into a book after a break?
Magic Bookmark is the only app we profile with a published place-finding feature: a photo of your page or the last phrase you heard finds your exact place, with who's who up to that point. More: Picking a book back up
Privacy and price
Which reading tracker has the lightest privacy label?
Hardcover's App Store label says Data Not Linked to You. Basmo, Bookly, Fable and Magic Bookmark list identifiers used to track you. BookBuddy, Goodreads, Literal and The StoryGraph list data linked to you but no data used to track you. More: Best for privacy-minded readers
Are privacy labels reliable?
They are written by the developers and not audited by Apple or by us. They are still the one consistent public record across apps. More: How profiles work
Which reading trackers are free?
Goodreads and Literal are free with no paid tier needed; The StoryGraph, Hardcover and Fable have free core apps with optional paid tiers; BookBuddy is free with every Pro feature up to 50 books. More: Best without a subscription
Which apps avoid subscriptions?
BookBuddy Pro is a one-time $9.99, and Magic Bookmark uses per-book credits that never expire. Goodreads and Literal need no payment for their main features. More: Best without a subscription

About this site
Why does this site not rank the apps?

How do I report a mistake?
Use the contact page with the topic Correction to app information and a link to the source. We check it against the app's own page. More: Contact
